Photographing this modern mountain home in Moonlight Basin was an exciting opportunity to translate its unique presence into a visual story. The home combined sleek, contemporary design with a deep connection to its mountain surroundings, offering endless inspiration for capturing its beauty through my images.
From the moment I walked in, the open floor plan, vaulted ceilings, and massive windows created a sense of expansiveness with the Montana landscape. My challenge—and my goal—was to use my photography to convey not only the scale of these elements but also the warmth and intimacy woven into the design.
I paid particular attention to the rich wood beams supplied by Montana Reclaimed Lumber. Their natural textures and tones grounded the home’s contemporary lines, connecting each room to the larger landscape outside. By framing shots to emphasize these beams and the views beyond the windows, I aimed to highlight how the architecture embraced its surroundings, allowing nature to become an integral part of the design.
The ski-in/ski-out access and ski/mud room added another layer of character. This wasn’t just a practical space—it was a carefully crafted nod to the mountain lifestyle. The custom cabinetry by Homestead Woods blended seamlessly with the overall aesthetic, offering functionality without compromising on style. I worked to capture this balance, showcasing how even the most utilitarian spaces in the home were elevated by thoughtful design.
Collaborating with Design Associates, Centre Sky Architecture, and Big Sky Build was a rewarding part of the process. Each team brought their expertise to create a home that feels luxurious yet approachable. Through my photography, I wanted to honor their vision, ensuring that every custom detail—from the lighting to the reclaimed timber—shone in the final images.
Seeing this home featured in Mountain Living magazine is a proud moment. It’s rewarding to know that my photographs allow readers to experience not only the grandeur of this home but also the subtle, artful touches that make it truly special.
