"Mountain modern" homes are starting to become the new trend in these high top, mountain retreats. This style of design allows for the cozy, intimate feel of the mountains without the dark and heavy, claustrophobic textures. The mountain modern home has more of a connection to the natural surroundings, an open airy feel, and lighter textures. Peers Homestead in Spanish Peaks Mountain Club in Big Sky, Montana is a perfect example of "mountain modern" at it's finest.
This past winter we spent three days shooting in Spanish Peaks. This home is a culmination of so many aspects I love in architecture. There is a rustic, mountain home feel but with modern and stylish touches. The detailed woodwork, custom stone, and steel beams show off the creativity and design. The large windows throughout the home brings the amazing outside surroundings, inside. You really feel as though you are in the deep in the Montana woods. The entry & great room has to be my favorite space in the home. You are welcomed to the through the impressive entry way and then immediately enter the great room with high vaulted ceilings. It's amazing that a space can be so open and grand yet have the intimate, cozy feel - it's truly stunning. As a photographer I LOVE natural light - this home has it, the natural light with the gorgeous views - win win.
The architecture of this home is stunning! I love the breezeway over to the garage and the large windows in the great room.
This great room is so stylish but still holds that mountain home feel with the furs and leathers. I love the light & dark colors used. It all works so well with the large windows and classic, stone fireplace!

This kitchen... wow! Who wouldn't enjoy having a real burning fire next to you while cooking? Another great combination of stonework, wood, and steel. Stunning!
Talk about a room with a view. The windows are what make this master suite so architecturally stunning. The furnishings add lovely textures that add to the splendar of the room.
The dining nook was one of my favorite spots in the house. The rustic wood beams and modern lights and furnishings compliment each other very well!

The entry is the first space you see when you walk into a home so it should be designed to impress. Nothing short of impressive with this stunning entry. Again, the wonderful combination of the stonework, wood, and steel beams show off the creativity and talent of the architect.
Every detail of this home was well thought out. The study, located just off the kitchen, is a special space with built in fireplace. And those stairs in the background - another architectural success!
